


At lower price points, the economic case for shipping wine in bulk and bottling it in the UK will normally be pretty compelling. Why pay to ship glass, closures, capsules, labels, wine – and lots of cardboard and air – hundreds, or thousands, of miles, when you could far more cheaply arrange for flexitanks of wine, and the necessary bottles, closures, etc, all to be shipped to a contract bottler in the destination market?
But the majority of wine consumed in the UK is still bottled in the country of origin. To what extent do legal constraints limit the expansion of UK bulk bottling?
